The EU*US eHealth Work project was a collaborative initiative funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, running from September 2016 to May 2018. Its primary objective was to enhance the digital skills of the healthcare workforce across Europe, the United States, and globally. The project focused on:
- Mapping and analyzing eHealth skills: Identifying the competencies required across various healthcare roles, from clinical and social care to administration and informatics.
- Advancing digital skills: Providing information, education, and training to improve the use of technology and health information systems among healthcare professionals.
- Developing educational resources: Creating an online curriculum offering foundational education in eHealth and healthcare IT.
- Establishing an interactive platform: Offering access to skills assessments and the online curriculum to support workforce development.
The project built upon previous EU-US collaborations in health information technology and was coordinated by OMNI Micro Systems/OMNI Med Solutions GmbH in Germany. Key partners included the European Health Telematics Association (EHTEL), which led dissemination and exploitation efforts.
Although the project concluded in 2018, its resources, such as the HITComp Tool and the foundational eHealth curriculum, continue to support the development of a skilled eHealth workforce.
